They did the same with the AMDVLK - vulkan driver. The OpenCL implementation will also be opensourced once it is good enough. In the last months, almost all parts of that package have also been open sourced, the only thing still being closed source is the parts that it shares with the old fglrx/catalyst package (we really don't want to have those parts anyway) and the OpenCL implementation. And it has significantly worse performance than the pure open source driver. The PRO driver is only available for RedHat and Ubuntu, and is aimed at company / professional use. So if you're using a newer AMD card, it'll make you use video-amdgpu (open source drivers). This was done to make installation of drivers easier for users. Video-linux contains (I believe, from the thread): Manjaro merged all of the open source drivers to video-linux, a generic gpu driver script for mhwd, so just use video-linux as the open source drivers are best for AMD. It's to much hassle in case of hardware upgrades. In case of hybrid graphics, we have the hybrid graphics scrips AND the single chip scripts - wich is confusing With a missing PCIID, mhwd will load vesa and make xorg/waylandcomp not work Right now we have following issues in mwhd for free drivers: Merge opensource graphicsdriver scripts?
